Best of the Day: Welcome to Night Vale – May 21, 2015

Like the menacing Glow Cloud, droll horror podcast Night Vale invades Berklee.

Welcome to Best of the Day, our daily recommendation for what to check out around town. If you do one thing in Boston today, consider this.

The world might have never suspected that what it always wanted was A Prairie Home Companion set in Silent Hill, but then Welcome to Night Vale came along and changed everything forever. Each installment of this wildly popular podcast has further fleshed out the surreally creepy nightmare world of Night Vale, “a friendly desert community where the sun is hot, the moon is beautiful, and mysterious lights pass overhead while we all pretend to sleep.” For a brief while, the Commonplace Books–spawned show remained safely contained in the tubes of the Internet. But Night Vale is leaking: Now, much like the hovering Glow Cloud that menaces the feral-dog-plagued fictional town, the show is now mobile and capable of invading your city. This week, narrator Cecil and his smooth, sonorous voice will be making an appearance for two nights at Berklee. Does he really have a third eye? You’ll no longer have to rely on Tumblr fan art to find out.

$27.50-$32.50, May 20-21, 8 p.m., Berklee Performance Center, 136 Massachusetts Ave., Boston, 617-266-7455, berklee.edu.
