Best of the Day: Redbones Bike Party – June 8, 2015
Welcome to Best of the Day, our daily recommendation for what to check out around town. If you do one thing in Boston today, consider this.
For decades, Davis Square’s Redbones has been championing bikes right alongside beers and brisket. In 1996, they introduced their first-in-the-nation bicycle valet parking, and their pedal-powered Rib Rider deliveries have become a Somerville staple.
And while Redbones keeps it wheel all year round, it’s at their annual Bike Party where their cyclist pride truly shines. For the 19th installment of this annual block party, they’re once again filling Chester Street with their award-winning barbecue, an outdoor beer garden, live music from Somerville’s Second Line Social Aid and Pleasure Society Brass Band, and bike love galore.
Your $15 entry fee includes not only food, drink, and bike valet parking, but also a ticket to Redbones’ raffle. Prizes include gift certificates to Landry’s Bicycles and Tread Labs, $1,500 worth of Redbones food truck service, and a grand-prize bike from JRA Cycles. Rolling away from this block party with a shiny new bike would be sweet bragging rights indeed, but leaving empty-handed is a pretty feel-good proposition all its own, since party proceeds go to MassBike and the New England Mountain Bike Association. As for leaving empty-stomached—well, it’s not really an option.
$15, June 8 (rain date June 15), 5-9 p.m., Redbones, 55 Chester St., Somerville, 617-628-2200, redbones.com.
