Best of the Day: T.T.’s Farewell Blowout – July 17, 2015

Before it closes, the legendary Cambridge club gets a week-long Viking funeral—including a sold-out Mighty Mighty Bosstones show.

Welcome to Best of the Day, our daily recommendation for what to check out around town. If you do one thing in Boston today, consider this.

T.T.’s, we hardly knew ye. After more than 40 years in Central Square, legendary nightclub T.T. the Bear’s is hanging it up—but not before going out in a blaze of glory. And Boston music scene vets are coming out of the woodwork to pay their respects.First, the Pixies announced a surprise show (which sold out in mere hours). And yesterday, the Mighty Mighty Bosstones broke the news that they’d be playing a T.T.’s show on Saturday (with “special guests”), right after their Fenway Park gig with with Mission of Burma and the Foo Fighters. Of course, this show sold out in a heartbeat, too.

Bosstones aside, there are still nine days left before T.T.’s shuts the lights off for good, and they’re packing in a whole lotta local music, including such local luminaries as The Upper Crust, Animal Talk, Bleu, Thalia Zedek, Evan Dando, and Mary Lou Lord. The honor of playing T.T.’s last show ever—on July 25—goes to alt-country trailblazers Scruffy the Cat.
