Update, August 10, 12:15 p.m.:

At the Harvard Book Store event on September 15, Kaling will appear in conversation with Atul Gawande, a renowned Brigham and Women’s Hospital surgeon, researcher, and writer.

Previously:

Comedy queen, recent Boston cover girl, and Cambridge native Mindy Kaling will soon return to her old stomping grounds, making two local appearances in September in support of her upcoming memoir.

Scheduled for a September 15 release, Why Not Me? is an anticipated follow-up to Kaling’s 2011 New York Times bestseller titled Is Everybody Hanging Out Without Me? (And Other Concerns).

Ever a Boston girl at heart, Kaling will kick off her book tour with a signing at Brookline Booksmith on September 14. The next day, she’ll appear at the Back Bay Events Center in a ticketed discussion hosted by the Harvard Book Store.

Recently, Kaling penned a humor piece for The New Yorker, in which she dissects various tropes of TV pilot premises, from “Boy-Man Must Face the Adult World” to “Talkative Chubster Seeks Husband,” that networks are currently clamoring for. Similar quips about Hollywood are expected to be seen in Why Not Me?, which is filled with witty essay titles like “How to Look Spectacular: A Starlet’s Confessions” and “Unlikely Leading Lady.”

Details for Kaling’s Brookline Booksmith appearance are forthcoming, but tickets for the Harvard Book Store-sponsored discussion will go on sale on Thursday, August 13, at 9 a.m. All tickets, $42 a piece, will include a signed edition of Why Not Me? and are limited to two per order. Ticket holders will be seated on a first-come, first-served basis.
