The Dropkick Murphys are hoping to send the Beachcomber off with a bang as the Quincy venue finally closes its doors this weekend.

The popular bar and club announced via its Facebook page on Thursday that the local rock band will be playing a surprise show for its closing night on Saturday, October 3.

While the venue has been a staple of the Quincy music scene since opening in 1959, the Beachcomber announced in August that it was shutting down operations.

Owned by the McGettrick family, the bar was expected to hold its final night back in September. However, the last day was extended to this weekend in order to allow area bands to sing their goodbyes.

According to the Boston Globe, the Beachcomber is set to be demolished and will be replaced by a restaurant.

Local music fans are sadly being forced to say farewell to a growing list of Boston-area clubs. In addition to the Quincy hot spot, T.T. the Bear’s also recently finished its run and will be replaced by a new music venue and restaurant called Sonia’s early next year.

Johnny D’s in Somerville will also be closing its doors in 2016.

Tickets to the Dropkick Murphys show at the Beachcomber are on sale now at dropkickmurphys.com.
