It took a while, but Live by Night has officially started filming.

The Boston-set crime drama based on Dennis Lehane’s 2012 novel kicked off production on Wednesday. Ben Affleck, who’s writing, directing, and starring in the film, announced the news via his Twitter account.

Affleck is set to play protagonist Joe Coughlin, a son of a Boston police captain who gets in deep with local mobsters during the Prohibition era.

The film, which will also star Sienna Miller and Zoe Saldana, was greenlit over the summer and was originally scheduled to start shooting in November.

Warner Brothers wanted to release Live by Night on October 7, 2016 , but later pushed the release date back to 2017 thanks to Affleck’s involvement with Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice.

According to People, the local star was spotted in his hometown last month while scouting locations for the upcoming flick.

Since he’s making another Boston-based movie, don’t be surprised if you see Affleck around town this fall.
