Newton native John Krasinksi shows off his dramatic chops in the latest trailer for the upcoming film 13 Hours: The Secret Soldiers of Benghazi.

While The Office star is usually known for his comedic side, he’s set to get serious in director Michael Bay’s new flick, which is based on the true story of the 2012 terrorist attack on the American compound in Benghazi, Libya. The incident led to the deaths of U.S. Ambassador Christopher Stevens and diplomat Sean Smith as well as two other Americans.

Krasinksi will be playing a character named Jack in 13 Hours, a soldier who is forced to deal with the harsh reality that he might not see his family again. The actor gets pretty emotional in the latest preview as he can be seen crying at one point in the trailer.

The Massachusetts-bred star recently told Entertainment Tonight that the film will showcase the real heroes behind the controversial conflict.

“This movie is about true heroism,” Krasinski said. “I think parents want to teach their kids to do the right thing no matter what and it’s a very hard lesson to teach, so a movie like this to show these guys did what was right no matter what the cost—I don’t think you can get any better than that.”

13 Hours, which also stars Pablo Schreiber and Toby Stephens, hits theaters on January 15, 2016.
