Sneaker giant Converse has teamed up with fellow Boston-based brand Bandulu, a purveyor of “street couture,” to create a new, limited-edition twist on the classic Chuck Taylor All Star ’70.
Inspired by the concept of “wearable art,” the high-tops, available in black and parchment, are embroidered with bursts of color, as if splattered with paint.
The paint-splatter design is prevalent in Bandulu’s collections, which take high-quality, vintage clothing and reimagine it using the hand-sewn embellishments. “Damn Pat,” says one testament to founder Pat Peltier on the brand’s website. “You’re like the Kanye of bedazzling.”
The new sneaker marks Converse’s first major local collaboration since it moved into its new world headquarters on Lovejoy Wharf, where the company has also been investing in the local arts scene by inviting musicians into the Rubber Tracks studio for free recording sessions.
The “Converse Chuck Taylor All Star ’70 x Bandulu” will be sold exclusively at Converse’s flagship store on Lovejoy Wharf, steps from the headquarters, starting on Friday, November 20. The suggested retail price is $160.
