TBT: Remember the New Kids on the Block Christmas Album?

Have a funky, funky Xmas.

Sick of hearing the same Christmas songs over and over again? Then channel your inner Blockhead of Christmas Past with Donnie Wahlberg and the gang.

In case you’ve forgotten, the New Kids on the Block put out a Christmas album way back in 1989 and it’s pretty funky. Merry, Merry Christmas came out at the height of NKOTB’s popularity and ended up going double platinum in the U.S.

The single “This One’s for the Children” turned out to be a breakout hit from the album, leading to a top 10 spot on Billboard’s Hot 100 chart as well as a world-spanning music video, which you can check out below.

The B-side to that track was, of course, the unforgettable “Funky, Funky Xmas.”

While listening to the song will definitely get those nostalgia juices going, watching NKOTB perform it with the help of Arsenio Hall is basically like riding in a time traveling sleigh back to the ’80s.
