One of the best tours to hit the area last year was the co-headlining jaunt from Smashing Pumpkins and Marilyn Manson, who tag-teamed the Blue Hills Bank Pavilion back in July in a retro-sexual explosion of ’90s alt-rock nostalgia.

Now, Billy Corgan’s side of things is set to head out on the road with another fellow ’90s luminary, Liz Phair, in tow, but it promises to be a much more subtle affair. Bringing back their “In Plainsong” format, the Pumpkins today announced an acoustic tour that hits Boston’s Orpheum Theatre on April 9. Tickets go on sale February 5 at noon.

For opener Phair, it’ll be her first stateside tour in six years, though we here in Boston just saw her live on stage not too long ago, as she performed at Aimee Mann’s holiday show at the Wilbur back in December.

The Smashing Pumpkins promise that the upcoming tour will be “an evening of acoustic based music and electronic soundscapes,” and the romp includes founding drummer Jimmy Chamberlin. A new album will be recorded after the tour concludes in Houston. Peep the full dates below.
