Twitter tells us that Massachusetts singer-songwriter Marissa Nadler recently saw Robert Eggers witchcraft horror film The Witch, which she described as “Extremely suspenseful” and “Subtle and not gratuitous.”

That’s our exact review of Nadler’s new song, “Janie In Love,” which has some straight-up haunting qualities. The stunningly gorgeous track is the first taste of Nadler’s new album, Strangers, due May 20 here in North America via Sacred Bones and out the same day on Bella Union everywhere else. The musician revealed both the song and album news this week.

“I recorded once more in Seattle, WA with producer Randall Dunn (Black Mountain, Earth, Sunn O))), Wolves In The Throne Room),” she writes. “Many of the players who appeared on July are back, as well as new collaborators (and new sounds).”

July is Nadler’s sixth studio album, a critically acclaimed effort that was released in 2014. As we await Strangers (pre-order it digitally here, and score more treats via Nadler’s mailing list), allow “Janie In Love” to properly set in with a repeated listen via YouTube. The Strangers cover art is also below.
