When Johnny D’s announced a few weeks ago that their final celebration would be a party for everyone around the Boston area, they weren’t kidding.

Yesterday saw the last day of operation for the long-time Davis Square restaurant and live music venue, and the celebration spilled onto the streets in order to accommodate the swarms of revelers that showed up to pay respects. The New Orleans-style second line brass band parade took over the Somerville neighborhood late in the afternoon, with revelers lining the streets, nearby MBTA station, and even the roof of the 300-person club that’s been home to various styles and sounds of music for nearly a half-century.

The Johnny D’s marquee said it all: “Thank you for 17,238 days of support… A.K.A…. 47 years, 2 months, 13 days.” Check out Ben Stas’ gallery of the action below.
