Casey Affleck and Summer Phoenix Are Splitting Up

Casey Affleck and his wife Summer Phoenix announced on Wednesday that they will be splitting up after nearly 10 years of marriage.

Casey’s representatives confirmed to People that the couple has “amicably separated” and “remain very close friends.” Casey and Summer have two sons, 11-year-old Indiana and 8-year-old Atticus.

The Boston-bred actor first met Summer while working with her brother, actor Joaquin Phoenix, on the film To Die For in 1995. The couple began dating in 2000 and wed in the summer of 2006.

As practicing vegans and staunch advocates for animal rights, the pair shared a lot in common.

“He is a bleeding heart,” Summer told Boston magazine in a 2006 story on Casey. “He is the most generous guy I have ever met.”

While the couple has been spotted out and about over the years, Summer hasn’t been seen by Casey’s side during recent red carpet events. She did not accompany the actor on his trip to Boston earlier this year for The Finest Hours red carpet.

The news comes less than a year since Ben Affleck, Casey’s older brother, announced that he would be getting a divorce from Jennifer Garner following their 10 years of marriage.

It looks like Ben won’t be the only Affleck who’s headed for the bachelor life.
