Runners for the Boston Medical Center’s 2016 Boston Marathon team received a special visit during their annual pasta dinner on Sunday night.

Marathon bombing survivor Jeff Bauman and actor Jake Gyllenhaal, who were recently named as the team’s co-captains, stopped by the event at the Westin Boston Waterfront to offer their support to the group ahead of Marathon Monday.

Bauman, who was treated at Boston Medical Center after sustaining serious injuries during the 2013 race, will be portrayed by Gyllenhaal in the upcoming film Stronger. The drama, which is currently filming in Boston, is an adaptation of Bauman’s memoir.

“It’s a story about, in my opinion, about love, about getting through something unfathomable,” Gyllenhaal said at the event, according to WCVB.

Mayor Marty Walsh and Police Commissioner William Evans also showed up at the dinner, which was hosted by former Patriots star Jerod Mayo.

The group of 90 runners has raised more than $638,000 according to Boston Medical Center officials.

Gyllenhaal and Bauman will be around town during all of the Patriots’ Day festivities, including throwing out the first pitch before the Monday morning Red Sox game at Fenway Park.

Filming for Stronger is also expected to take place throughout the day.
