Irish dance groups from around New England will go head-to-head—or rather toe-to-toe—for a chance to open for Riverdance in Boston.

The live audition, which is being held at the Citi Wang Theatre next week, will pit ten local troupes against each other as they vie for one of three spots to dance onstage before a performance of the popular Irish show in May.

According to a press release, the ten finalists were chosen from a number of area companies who submitted demo tapes during the first round of the competition. They will audition in front a panel of judges, including Kennedy from MIX 104 and former Riverdance performer John Grimes, who will select the three winning groups.

The winners will get the change of a lifetime as they will be the opening acts before a performance of Riverdance on Thursday, May 12 at the Citi Wang Theatre.

The live auditions are going down on Monday, April 25 at 2:30 pm.

Riverdance, which is currently embarking on it’s 20th anniversary world tour, will only be in town for one week in May. Fans can check out the return of the popular show at the Citi Wang Theatre May 10-15.
