Berklee College of Music students, faculty, and alumni have teamed up with Jimmy Carter’s non-profit organization to produce a new music video calling for peace.
The song, titled “Love Is the Answer,” debuted on Tuesday at the Carter Center’s Human Rights Defender’s Forum in Atlanta, where the former president delivered the keynote address.
The video, which highlights issues from economic injustice to violence against women, was the brainchild of Berklee alumna Karin Ryan, now a senior advisor for the Carter Center’s Human Rights Program. The project came about following a 2014 meeting between President Carter and Berklee’s president Roger Brown, as well as several students and faculty members.
“Promoting human rights comes down to creative storytelling,” Ryan said in a release. “I wanted to make better use of the arts in telling the story of the human rights struggle.”
Florida minister Breeze the Voice wrote the lyrics for “Love Is the Answer” and also serves as lead vocals in the video alongside singer Rotana.
The song’s string orchestration was crafted by Berklee professor Michael Farquharson and performed by the Berklee Contemporary Symphony Orchestra. The video features the Berklee Gospel Choir on backing vocals as well.
