A Silent, Floating Dance Party Is Coming to Boston in July

A giant dance party is coming to town but it probably won’t wake up the neighbors.

As part of the Global Float movement, a floating dance party will be going down in Boston on Saturday, July 9. The event will be similar to a silent disco as participants will gather to groove, but only to music playing through their headphones.

According to the event’s Facebook page, the dancing will commence promptly at 9 p.m. by the fountain near the Park Street T stop. From there, the party will be on the move as revelers dance around Boston.

Organizers will be releasing a special, 90-minute playlist a few days before the party so participants can be in sync during the festivities. The event in Boston will be just one of many floating dance parties going on around the world.

The silent dance events have been going on for a few years, taking place in cities all over the globe, from Manhattan to Nairobi.

The mission of the movement, according to the Global Float website, is to connect “the world through one continuous night of dancing and exploring cities.”
