The actor's latest movie filmed in Massachusetts last year.

Grab a tissue box because Casey Affleck’s latest movie is going to bring the feels.

An emotional first trailer for the upcoming drama Manchester by the Sea was released on Wednesday, and it certainly looks like an award season tearjerker. Affleck stars in the Kenneth Lonergan-directed film as a Boston janitor named Lee, who’s forced to go back to his hometown of Manchester-by-the-Sea when his brother dies in order to take care of his nephew.

The movie, which filmed in various parts of Massachusetts last year, was originally set to star Matt Damon. Affleck stepped in when Damon dropped out of the starring role due a prior commitment to the new Jason Bourne film.

Kyle Chandler also stars in the drama as the brother of Affleck’s character while Michelle Williams plays his estranged wife Randi.

Affleck told Boston magazine earlier this year that he had a lot of fun returning to his home state to shoot The Finest Hours and Manchester by the Sea back-to-back.

“After [filming The Finest Hours], I got to do another movie, the same year, in Manchester by the Sea in the North Shore,” Affleck said. “It was a real treat for me.”

While Amazon Studios and Roadside Attractions won’t be releasing Manchester by the Sea into theaters until November 18, the film made a huge splash when it premiered at Sundance this year, landing a $10 million deal from Amazon Studios. The movie currently has a Rotten Tomatoes score of 95 percent and, according to Variety, may just earn Affleck his first Oscar nomination for best actor.
