When you’re a big television star like Mindy Kaling, you don’t have a lot of time to do errands. That’s why Stephen Colbert decided to help out his famous friend with her chores on Monday night’s episode of the Late Show.

The pair went on an impromptu shopping date around New York City after the Mindy Project creator and actress admitted in her interview with Colbert that she’s in desperate need of a mop. Without missing a beat, Kaling and the late-night host hopped out of their seats and left the Ed Sullivan Theater mid-show to stop by a Duane Reade.

The comedy stars had some fun catcalling construction workers and trying out Halloween costumes during their trip, in addition to obtaining the much needed mop.

“I have no way of paying for this,” Kaling joked when they reached the register. “Can we pay in fame?”

Following their excursion, the duo returned to the theater—mop in hand—to finish their highly-entertaining interview.

Kaling ended up chatting about her involvement in the upcoming all-female Ocean’s Eleven reboot, Ocean’s Eight, which starts filming in two weeks. The actress couldn’t believe that she’s part of such a star-studded cast, which includes Cate Blanchett, Sandra Bullock, Anne Hathaway, and Rihanna.

“It’s in New York City and there’s a fashion element to it,” Kaling revealed. “This movie was like if you took all my favorite things and shook it up in a blender.”
