If Uzo Aduba ever gets sick of playing Suzanne “Crazy Eyes” Warren on Orange Is the New Black, she might want to give Trevor Noah a call.

The Medfield native stopped by the Daily Show on Tuesday night to talk about her new film American Pastoral and ended up giving the late-night host an impromptu acting lesson. The Emmy Award-winning actress taught Noah her actual process for getting into character on the hit Netflix series.

“Think about something that you love,” Aduba said. “Imagine like a fire in your stomach, it’s really low, and start turning it up.”

Noah did a pretty good job of channeling his inner “Crazy Eyes.”

Aduba also chatted about why she briefly quit acting before landing the huge role on Orange Is the New Black. The former Boston University track star admitted that she was distraught by the lack of job prospects and constant auditions, which prompted her to want to step away from the world of entertainment.

“I just thought, ‘Well maybe this isn’t for me,'” Aduba said. “I got home and had quit and was done. Forty five minutes later I got a phone call saying, ‘Remember that audition you went on for Orange Is the New Black? You got it.’ That was that.”
