Do Not Resist 

Academy Award-nominated director Craig Atkinson’s latest feature, the documentary Do Not Resist, explores the rise of police militarization. The film, which won Best Documentary Feature at the Tribeca Film Festival, starts on the streets of Ferguson, Missouri, and provides a visual and chilling look at the phenomenon. Atkinson will join viewers after the Nov. 3 screening for a discussion.

Damien Jurado

Damien Jurado has been steadily releasing indie rock albums since the ’90s. His most recent, Visions of Us on the Land came out in March, but with a dozen albums to pick music from, you can trust that his set list will be pretty varied. Jurado is based in Seattle, and while you’d imagine he might have been influenced by grunge at a young age, you might not guess that he used to get mix tapes from Kurt Cobain himself. Yes, really.

Childe Hassam and the Isles of Shoals

The weather may be cooling down, but you can still enjoy island life at the Peabody Essex Museum with the American Impressionist: Childe Hassam and the Isles of Shoals exhibit. This is the first exhibition to showcase Childe Hassam’s painting in more than 25 years and is only on display for one more weekend. Take in serene views of island gardens and rocky shores as they are beautifully captured in more than 40 oil and watercolor paintings. Plus, now that October is over, it’s finally safe to go to Salem again!
