Bernie Sanders Talks Donald Trump’s ‘Delusional’ Tweets on Conan

The Vermont senator thinks the president-elect's posts are 'totally insane.'

Bernie Sanders weighed in on some of Donald Trump’s questionable tweets during a chat with Conan O’Brien on Tuesday night.

The Vermont senator and former Democratic presidential candidate didn’t mince words while talking with the late-night host, as he called the president-elect’s recent Twitter posts “totally insane.” In particular, Sanders slammed Trump for his baseless insinuation that “millions of people” voted illegally during the 2016 election.

“First of all, it’s delusional. It’s totally insane,” Sanders said. “Nobody believes that who studies elections or election patterns.”

Sanders went on to express his fears over Trump’s statement about voter fraud, which he believes is a rallying cry to Republicans leaders to further “suppress” disenfranchised voters.

“That’s scary stuff,” Sanders said. “My own view is we have got to work overtime to bring more people into the political process, not make it harder for people to participate.”

Sanders also fired back at Trump for his tweet about jailing citizens who burn the American flag. The Vermont senator thinks the post is a “hidden message” by the president-elect to dissuade possible dissenters.

“What he is really saying is, ‘If you want to really dissent, be careful,'” Sanders said. “‘It’s not just the American flag here. We’re watching you.’ That’s what’s scary about that.”
