Nicole Kidman Brought to Tears by Casey Affleck’s Manchester by the Sea

The Hollywood stars chatted about the film for Variety's 'Actors on Actors' series.

Nicole Kidman had nothing but praise for Casey Affleck during their conversation for Variety‘s “Actors on Actors” series.

The pair, who starred together in the 1995 thriller To Die For, recently sat down to discuss their latest big roles in this year’s buzz-worthy flicks Lion and Manchester by the Sea. Kidman revealed that she was excited to participate in the video with her old co-star, as she was extremely moved by his performance in the Massachusetts-set drama.

The actress apparently shed a few tears over the film and admitted to Affleck that it was one of only five movies ever that’s left her with a reaction of “I can’t get out of bed after I’ve seen it.”

“I’ll cry and I don’t want to cry now, but it’s an extraordinarily deep, real performance,” Kidman said in the clip. “It’s unbelievably powerful.”

Towards the end of the far-reaching conversation, Kidman once again lauded Manchester by the Sea for its realistic take on characters and relationships, saying that it’s “just people existing, trying to come to life.” In particular, she was impressed with how director Kenneth Lonergan let certain gut-wrenching scenes play out like real life.

“It’s riveting because of that,” Kidman said. “That is just exquisite storytelling.”
