Meet the Real Bostonians of Patriots Day in a New Behind the Scenes Video

The featurette explores Boston's role in the Marathon bombing movie.

CBS Films has released a new behind the scenes video for Mark Wahlberg’s Patriots Day.

The featurette takes a closer look at how real Bostonians were cast as extras in the movie, including several runners, doctors, law enforcement members, and others who experienced the Boston Marathon bombing firsthand.

“Virtually every extra from the film is from Boston,” director Peter Berg says in the clip. “A large percentage of them were involved in the actual event.”

The video also features appearances by several of the film’s stars, who praised the citizens of Boston for their devotion to the city, especially in the wake of the 2013 tragedy.

“The people of Boston have a lot of love for the city of Boston,” says actress Rachel Brosnahan, who plays survivor Jessica Kensky. “There is a patriotism surrounding this community that’s unlike most places I’ve visited.”

The video explores the actual filming locations used in Patriots Day as well. According to location manager Mark Fitzgerald, shooting took place all over the Bay State, including Framingham, Malden, Peabody, Weymouth, Quincy, and Dorchester.

“All of those towns have kind of like open arms welcomed us,” Fitzgerald says.
