The Cherry Blossom Package
Where: Wentworth by the Sea Hotel, 588 Wentworth Road, New Castle, N.H.
When: Available April 1 through May 30
How much: Rates starting at $199

In 1905, New Hampshire’s Wentworth by the Sea Hotel played a direct role in the peace conference that created the Portsmouth Peace Treaty. It provided free accommodations and meals for the Russian and Japanese delegates who spent 30 days negotiating. What resulted—the Portsmouth Peace Treaty—ended the Russo-Japanese War.

To say thanks, Japan gifted cherry blossom trees to the city of Portsmouth. The Portsmouth Peace Treaty Living Memorial cherry trees can be found near Portsmouth City Hall, Portsmouth schools, the Portsmouth Naval Shipyard, and, fittingly, Wentworth by the Sea Hotel.

This year, Wentworth by the Sea Hotel is offering a special Cherry Blossom package, which includes accommodations, breakfast for two, welcoming champagne, and chocolate-covered cherries. Until May 30, guests can take advantage of rates staring at $199 per night, and kick back in the castle-like resort on New Hampshire’s seacoast. The hotel offers newly renovated guest rooms, indoor and outdoor pools, a wellness facility, a spa, and more. It’s also a short drive to Portsmouth’s Market Square.
