While we might be staring down our first snowfall prediction of the season, here’s something that’ll help you look forward to falling temps—a brand new seasonal outdoor skating rink, called The Rink at 401 Park, will open in Fenway this December.
Dubbed “Boston’s Winter Playground,” the 6,000 square foot rink will transform “The Green,” the one acre park outside the Trillium taproom and Time Out Market, for the winter months. The rink, which the developer claims is the first public skating rink in Fenway, will be open seasonally, and discounted tickets will be available for minors, students, and senior citizens. A programming schedule is expected to be announced in the coming weeks, featuring theme nights, live DJs, skating lessons, sporting events, and more.
“When we said we envisioned 401 Park as an all-seasons hub, we meant it,” Steve Samuels, founder of developer Samuels & Associates, said in a statement. “That means providing an innovative space that engages with and brings together all generations no matter the weather. What better way to celebrate the season than with one of the most quintessential wintertime activities.”
This is shaping up to be a pretty festive December in Boston. While Boston Winter, the event that transformed City Hall Plaza into a chalet market and skating rink, is still on pause thanks to plans to renovate the plaza, the news about the Rink at 401 Park follows an announcement about a skating rink coming to the Seaport. That rink will be the same size as the one coming to Fenway, but it will also be accompanied by an “outdoor deck” and “warming tent.”
