FBI: No, That’s Not Whitey Bulger

Last week we were totally psyched for James “Whitey” Bulger’s appearance on Aktenzeichen XY…ungelöst. While our vigil for the clip to appear on YouTube continues, the segment did yield some results for the FBI.

The feds confirm the news that broke this weekend, saying the video of an older couple vacationing in Italy is not Bulger and his Lebensgefährtin Catherine Greig. (We’ve been practicing our German. Sie mögen?)

We knew we weren’t looking at Bulger in the video from the get-go. His ex-girlfriend didn’t think it was him either. A few Irish grandpas had run-ins with overzealous Italian cops due to the confusion. This weekend, a German man told police the couple in the video was his parents, and the FBI took the video off its website.

Even though the FBI’s most recent photographs of Bulger are from 1994, the agency remains undaunted.

“We’re going to continue our worldwide media outreach to arrest Mr. Bulger and his companion,” [spokeswoman Gail] Marcinkiewicz said.
