Now Playing Second Base for the Sox…Kenny Chesney?!

When Dustin Pedroia became the starting second baseman last year, we might have said some uncharitable things about his dismal performance at the plate early in the season. There may have been a time when we sang part of “The Lollipop Guild” song from The Wizard of Oz after a particularly infuriating at-bat. But, fast-forward a year, and we’re eating our words. (Sorry, Dustin.)

Pedroia started the All-Star Game and we can’t imagine anyone else playing second for our Sox.

1216230693Especially Kenny Chesney.

The hugely popular (for reasons we can’t explain) country singer told People magazine he dreams of playing second base for the Sox.

“Deep down I would love to play second base for the [Boston] Red Sox. . . I got into music and then I realized that I didn’t want to eat, drink and sleep [baseball],” he says. “I just wanted to eat, drink and sleep.”

If Kenny loves the Red Sox so much, how did People get a picture of him in a Yankees cap?

And while it has nothing to do with his chances at playing baseball in Boston, we’re also issuing demerits for his friendship with Colts quarterback Peyton Manning.

Don’t ever leave us, Dustin.
