What’s the Dish? Restaurant Week Edition


1218119724Summer Restaurant Week Boston® returns to the Hub with 180-plus participating restaurants from the Greater Boston area. Diners can feast on three-course prix fixe lunches for $20.08 and three-course dinners for $33.08—excluding beverage, tax and gratuity.

Here are Chowder’s top picks for the prix fixe frenzy.

Excelsior
Dinner only
For dinner, Excelsior will have two first-course choices (Blue Hill mussel gumbo and a field greens salad) and three entree choices (smoked loin of pork, pan roasted Carolina duck breast, or a skillet seared Atlantic salmon filet). There will also be two selections for dessert (a deconstructed blackberry plum parfait or the dark chocolate creme brulee.) And next week, they’ll have a whole different menu.

Gaslight
Dinner only

The Beston of Boston 2008 Brasserie winner’s dinner menu includes a choice between three hors d’oeuvres (the “omelette Arnold Bennett,” foraged mushroom vol au vent with cepes cream, or chilled tomato soup). For the entree, guests can choose between Poulet Grand Mere, Crispy Cod Anglaise, or Flank Steak a la Planche. And for dessert, there’s a choice of chocolate and caramel crepes, Citron Torte Bocuse, or Almond Linzer Torte.

Masa
Dinner only

Masa will also be serving a three-course dinner for $33.08. But for an additional $15, you can sip a flight of margaritas, specially paired with each course. The dinner entree choices include Southwestern style steak frites, blackened rare Ahi Tuna steak with yellow mole, and crispy organic chicken breast con cerveza and Nopales salsa.

The Natick Collection
Sel De La Terre and Met Bar and Grill
Serving both lunch and dinner

Living in the ‘burbs? You don’t have to trek into town. Two restaurants at the Natick Collection, Sel De La Terre and Met Bar and Grill, will be participating as well. For both lunch and dinner, Sel De La Terre is offering a three-course prix fixe with two choices for each course. And Met is offering a three-course lunch and dinner, each with two choices for the appetizer and entree, as well as dessert.

OM will be honoring Restaurant Week for the entire month of August. Highlights from the dinner menu include sweet potato ravioli or a braised lamb shank with coconut and vin rouge with summer vegetables and almond rice.

Sibling Rivalry
Dinner only

Chef David Kinkead wanted to give his guests a real feel for the restaurant, so he’s making the entire menu available at the Restaurant Week price. Patrons are invited to create their own three-course prix fixe by choosing one appetizer, one entree, and one dessert for $33.08.

Toro
Dinner only

For the tapas themed dinner at Toro (Best of Boston 2008 Spanish), guests can choose from 20 small plates on offer. Choose five for two people; eight for three people, or 10 for four people. You’ll also get to choose one pincha from five different options, and a dessert.

Turner Fisheries
Serving lunch and dinner
Excludes Sunday lunch & dinner

For the dinner option, Turner Fisheries is offering a mini clambake for only $33.08. The seafood feast will include lobster, littleneck clams, mussels, heirloom potatoes, and corn fume, and diners will also be treated to an appetizer (a choice of New England clam chowder, a tuna trio, or orange coriander crusted mango and papaya ceviche) and dessert.
