This is my business. I'd like to submit an update.

Dr. Steven Spitz established Smileboston to create a comfortable environment, incorporate innovative technology, and provide every patient with, what they proudly call 20 years later, the “Smileboston Experience.” Their highly skilled team includes Drs. Victoria Kaplan (Top Dentist 2018 and 2019), Russell Taylor, and Susan Han, an adult/pediatric endodontist. Following training at Tuft s and Harvard universities, Dr. Spitz discovered laser dentistry and surgical applications for implants as an integral part of high-quality restorations. He was among the first prosthodontists in the country to place implants using lasers and is Pinhole Advanced Certified. Smileboston offers implant planning, placement, restoration, and care for all ages (including teens), Invisalign, sedation (sleep) dentistry, and Botox.

List the treatments and procedures you offer:

What's your background, education and training?

Dr. Spitz received his DMD at Tufts University School of Dental Medicine and his Prosthodontic Certificate through the Harvard School of Dental Medicine/VA program, following a general practice residency through Miami’s Jackson Memorial Hospital/VA program.

He served as clinical professor of prosthodontics in the post-graduate Prosthodontic department at Harvard and is currently an on-hands teaching site for the APEX program for Boston University, mentoring more than 20 students to date.

What is your typical process for working with a new patient?

Introducing patients new to our practice begins on their first call. We work to discover what they are looking for in treatment: health, camera ready smile for special occasions, or to relieve pain, and what they need to accomplish their goal. Each individual is different, so we tailor our visit to each individual.

What advice would you give a patient looking to find a provider in your specialty?

In areas such as Boston, you can find a Prosthodontist (a specialist in dental restoration) who has the education, training, and experience to complete both phases, surgically place the implant and create the crown/bridge attached to the implant, from start to finish. Otherwise, you will have two doctors work together (one surgical and one restorative) to complete treatment. When preparing for dental implant treatment, find out if a laser is being utilized to minimize surgery or if only traditional means are being used; ask what's included in treatment plan/cost and how is treatment planned, does your dentist offer sedation, and lastly, is a CT scan part of your treatment plan.

What inspired your passion for your profession?

I enjoy working with people who have a passion for life and who have a positive mental attitude. Sometimes, a smile makes all the difference and I believe that confidence begins with a great smile.

What treatments are you most excited to offer?

Two of the ways we care for many of our patients is with dental implants and the Pinhole Technique. In our office we utilize laser dentistry as a less-invasive means to surgery, where the healing is faster and the results are aesthetically better than with traditional surgical means. The Pinhole Technique allows a patient to care for receding gums and gingival issues with a 'pinhole' rather than removing tissue from one part of their mouth to another. There is minimal discomfort and they can actually go back to work the same day; it is an amazing procedure.

What is the best reaction you’ve ever received from a patient?

A patient smiling after working together to achieve a physical goal, saying that they never believed that it was possible, is the most amazing feeling any clinician can experience.

What makes your practice stand apart?

The Smileboston Experience along with the advanced technology we utilize in our office on a daily basis, is unique. Having a CT scanner on premises for implant placement, a Biolase laser in each operatory (not only one in the entire office), and the ability to offer procedures that are not found in any other office in Boston (Advanced Care Pinhole Technique) is key.

What should patients know about your pricing?

We work to treat each individual with the care that is necessary for their specific results. We currently submit to insurance plans, but don't create treatment around their restrictions, working to equip all patients with the knowledge that dental plans assist financially, yet do not always take into consideration the necessary treatments.

How many years have you been in business?

Smileboston opened our doors 22 years ago, in 1997.

What do clients have to say about you?

(1) Finding the perfect home for our dental health has been a life changer! Thanks to the amazing care and top notch, state of the art diagnostic tools, both my son and I can credit the SmileBoston team with saving our teeth. My son was misdiagnosed for years and years when his baby teeth has yet to fall out. We were told to wait and then he could get braces to correct his bite. One visit to SmileBoston and we learned that all of my teenage son's secondary teeth were fused to the roof of his mouth! And that they would never push out his baby teeth. SmileBoston recommended surgical and orthodontic care expert in rare cases like my son''s. (Not one previous dentist or orthodonist even looked for the cause!) For me, Dr. Spitz recommended braces. When he first told me, I laughed. My teeth were extremely straight. I did, however, suffer from receding gums. Dr. Spitz showed me that one of my teeth was turning ever so slightly and pulling my gums away from the rest of my teeth. Sort of like sharing a bed and your partner rolls over and takes all the covers. Six months later, my teeth are less sensitive. Flossing no longer hurts (so I am honestly flossing!). We look forward to going to the dentist! Can you say that? Thank you to the awesome team at SmileBoston. We are truly smiling in my family!

(2)From the moment you walk in you are greeted with a friendly smile and from there on it only gets easier. From the front desk dealing with what insurance covers, to the dental hygienist that cleans your teeth, if that’s the proper wording for that position. And all the way up to the doctor, nothing but the utmost professionalism.

(3)Love this office! They really care so much about their patients and want to always want to make sure they get it perfect for your comfort!
