Mini-Masochist: Chanel’s Blue Satin

1196963991This just in at the Bostonista test lab: Chanel Blue Satin nail polish, a shimmery royal navy that sequels last year’s ubiquitous black (Chanel’s own Black Satin nail color is an all-time best-seller). There’s already a wait list for this stuff at the label’s Newbury Street boutique.

Some of you (especially Bostonista‘s male readership out there—hi, Dad) might be a little wary of dark nails, remembering your embarrassing late ’80s Culture Club obsession or that scary phase when your roommate Blaine dyed his hair purple and wore black nail polish for a month. But I promise, it’s nothing like that.

It’s not, ‘I’m going to shut myself in the bedroom, color my nails, and never come out again’ black. It’s not Ally Sheedy with a sharpie. It’s mysterious, edgy, daring, covetous—the beauty industry is based on wish fulfillment, folks; stay with me—and you might actually feel that way wearing it.

I sort of do. At the very least, I like knowing my paws could take down any sweet, pink, Mademoiselle-wearing girlie girl who stands ever so meekly in my way.

Le Vernis nail color, $19, Chanel, 5 Newbury St., Boston, 617-859-0055, chanel.com.
