It may only be May, but we’ve already staked our claim on a dress for the office holiday party in December. A girl likes to plan ahead! Bostonista attended Carmen Marc Valvo’s fall 2008 fashion show Friday at the Natick Collection, and after lusting after each and every sexy little number that sashayed down that runway, we’re absolutely putting our cash toward our latest frock find. (See a photo slide show from the event here.)
Carmen Marc Valvo shipped up to Boston on Friday for the greater good. Not only did he offer locals a sneak peek at his fantastic new line, but he was also in town to support “Ovations for the Cure,” a foundation that raises money for ovarian cancer research. A survivor of colon cancer himself, Valvo choked up while explaining to the audience the importance of early detection, saying it’s what saved his life.
Also on hand was Joyce Kulhawik, former arts and entertainment anchor for WBZ-TV, who also shared her personal story as a three-time cancer survivor. Days before she was set to walk down the aisle, she discovered she had full-blown malignant melanoma, and then years later she fought ovarian cancer, not once, but twice. She’s been cancer-free for 10 years, and she urged attendees to never second guess any abnormalities.
After riding an emotional roller coaster with all of the speakers, we were eying the “pre-lunch” dessert that was strategically sitting right in front of us (colossal slices of chocolate cheesecake from the Cheesecake Factory and a different flavor on each table). Then it was time to sit back and stare as models marched around the u-shaped catwalk in gorgeous satin, silk, and chiffon evening wear in jewel tones of emerald green, royal purple, and peacock blue. Then there were Valvo’s jaw-dropping too-hot-to-trot black lace over nude numbers. Ooh-la-la!
The look was knee-length skinny silhouettes and floor-length gowns, and everywhere, we saw everything. Sheer, sheer, sheer! It looks like fall’s the time to bare your sexiest black demi underneath see-through dress shirts (probably NFSW). We’re also going to need a pair of Valvo’s ultra-sassy—even dominatrix-worthy—leather “opera-length” gloves, which add unexpected edginess to all that glamor.
