Lake Placid Lodge Back in Business

1225474515Sure, he brought us the best show ever about Boston and female insecurity. But he also brought us this, which quite possibly put people off Lake Placid (and horror-comedies) for the next decade. But, all is forgiven, David E. Kelley, not in the least because the new and improved Lake Placid Lodge is now luring back visitors.

After a fire ravaged the historic site in 2005, the lodge was forced to operate as a lakeside inn during reconstruction. But the Relais & Chateaux property announced its return to luxury resort status with a new layout, featuring a 25,000 sq. ft. main lodge, a new dining room (manned by Chef Kevin McCarthy), and 11 renovated and enlarged guest suites. Each room offers gorgeous views of Lake Placid and White Face Mountain, includes its own fireplace, and comes stocked to the brim with antique furnishings and an artisan-crafted bed.

The true gem will be the almost-finished White Face suite, delayed only by the lodge’s decision to add a few more luxurious touches. (The room already features a unique platform bed that appears to be suspended between four trees).

The suite can be sold independently or in conjunction with the its neighbor suite. Together, both rooms take up the entire top floor of the main lodge, which enables guests to take full advantage of the enormous wraparound deck. And despite the ample square footage in the lodge’s new additions, each space still maintains an intimate, cozy feel.

The upscale property is (re)opening just in time for chilly weather and, later, alpine pursuits. Rumor has it the lodge has become a celebrity favorite. That’s good news for Kelley, who can cook up his next project in the $1,250 per night Owl’s Head Cabin. Just no man-eating crocodiles this time, please.
