Fanny Pack Frenzy?

By Lauren Landry

Could the fanny pack be making a comeback? Trust us — we don’t want to look like one of those tourists trudging along the Freedom Trail either. However, famous design houses such as Diane von Furstenberg and Marc Jacobs just sent styles down the runway during New York’s Fashion Week. While Michael Kors and Gucci produce their own “belt bag,” Louis Vuitton clings on to its “bum bag Brooklyn.” No matter what you call it — waist pack, hip sack — as a Bostonian, it might be a trend you should try on.

“Having a smaller bag allows you to carry less,” said Brianne Dyke, manager and marketing coordinator of Crush Boutique in Beacon Hill. Dyke said Crush sells more clutches than any other bag and plans to stock fanny packs in the store come spring. “There’s something to be said about a dual accessory. You can use the bag as almost a belt, and hang the bag around your waist when you’re going out at night.” (Editor’s note: This also means you can finally say farewell to those frantic nights when you left your clutch behind at the bar or in the back of a cab.)

Like it or leave it, the functional bag is creeping its way from cliché to couture — write us a comment below and let us know what you think.
