Roof Deck, Reimagined: Decking Out a Back Bay Duplex

roof deck real estate

Underutilized outdoor space is a good problem to have. But it’s not always easy to see its potential. With that in mind, we asked local landscape designer Matthew Cunningham how he would trick out the decks of this $5.5 million Back Bay duplex on the market.

The Problem: This 3,280-square-foot duplex has two roof decks: a smaller space for casual al fresco entertaining, and a larger one with skyline and Charles River views. But a generic dining set just doesn’t cut it.

The Solution: Cunningham’s proposal (below) features sectional seating to invite conversation, as well as low planters and colorful accents that keep the views front and center.
