In 1921, Coco Chanel released Chanel No. 5, the fragrance that became the brand’s signature scent as well as a cultural icon and status symbol. This month, Chanel is making history again by unveiling an updated version of Chanel No. 5, marking only the fifth change to the formula in 95 years. Dreamed up by perfumer Olivier Polge (best known for the Viktor & Rolf hit Flowerbomb), the new scent is a refreshing take on Coco’s original. Balancing its classic May rose bouquet with oxygenated jasmine and distilled ylang-ylang—as well as notes of lemon, mandarin, orange, vetiver, cedar, and delicate musk—this landmark reimagining of the fragrance is guaranteed to be a classic for the next generation of Chanel fans.
