It could be the sun-drenched space, the mixture of understated scents or the staff’s glowing complexions, but chances are your skin will start to feel healthier the moment you walk through the doors of Credo’s newest outpost on Newbury Street. There’s no doubt your dermas will actually detox as soon as you begin using any of the products that line the shelves. From hair care to skin care, makeup, deodorant, and even toothpaste, the San Francisco-bred clean beauty store promises that they’ve got you covered from head to toe in products that are safe to absorb into your bloodstream.

The company was founded in 2015 by Annie Jackson and the late Shashi Batra, two of the industry giants responsible for bringing Sephora to the US. Batra started researching the ingredients in popular beauty products and discovered many were toxic. He immediately saw the need to showcase clean, high-end brands and bring awareness of the make-up of well, make-up, to the consumer.

In order to be sold at Credo, a brand has to pass three tests: They have to be free of all ingredients that Credo deems “dirty” (the full list is on their website), all products have to be effective, and the packaging has to be beautiful. The store currently carries about one hundred different brands, with an average of thirty submissions coming in weekly. “Even in the past three years, the brands are elevated more and more and the clean beauty space is becoming really exciting. Skincare is on-fire, make-up is coming out with new brands all the time. Right now, we have twenty different deodorants to choose from!” says Lydia Harter, the Director of Marketing for Credo.

So how does a consumer choose which clean deodorant or shampoo is right for them, especially when so many of us have loyally been using one brand for years? Credo is here to gently lead you into this brave new world of products. Just call the store and set-up a time to have a passionate staff member go through your beauty routine with you. You can also book an appointment for a free in-store mini facial. You’ll be treated to thirty minutes of cleansing, toning, moisturizing, and skin refreshing using an entire line of products. Every two months, a new brand is featured. It’s a great way to try out the products and see what works best for you. One thing is certain, you will fall for Credo’s philosophy and your skin will thank you for it.
