Dr. Thakkar is chief of endocrinology at MelroseWakefield Hospital. She completed her residency in internal medicine before specializing her fellowship training in endocrinology, diabetes, metabolism and nutrition at Boston Medical Center. She enjoys working with her patients to improve their quality of life.

Dr. Thakkar offers a personalized and integrated approach to diabetes care, listening carefully to her patientsí needs, educating them about the disease, and working together to develop an appropriate action plan, being mindful of each patientís personal and social situation. She believes strongly in the importance of lifestyle and dietary habit changes, in conjunction with prescription management. Many of her patients have had tremendous success following a plant-based approach to care, requiring less medication, regulating their weight, and feeling better overall.

Dr. Thakkar leads a team of physicians, nurses and diabetes educators at MelroseWakefield Hospital and Lawrence Memorial Hospital of Medford. She loves learning about the latest advances in diabetes treatments and new technologies in order to teach and empower her patients. In addition to diabetes, Dr. Thakkar sees patients with a variety of endocrine issues including thyroid, osteoporosis and adrenal care.
