Dr. Wise is the founder of DermWellesley, a premiere full-service medical, surgical and cosmetic dermatology practice conveniently located within The Wellesley Office Park at 20 William Street. As a veteran board-certified dermatologist, Dr. <Wise treats the entire spectrum of skin disease with a special interest in acne. She also performs numerous non-surgical cosmetic procedures with a keen eye for optimizing facial rejuvenation while maintaining a very natural appearance. The practice also remains committed to offering urgent access appointments to evaluate any pressing or emergent skin concerns (by appointment only).

What's your background, education and training?

Emily M. Wise; MD is a board-certified dermatologist and the founder of DermWellesley in Wellesley, MA. She practices medical and cosmetic dermatology. While she has a clinical interest in acne, she treats the full spectrum of skin problems and concerns. She also has extensive experience and expertise in neurotoxins (Botox and Dysport), sweat elimination with miraDry, non-surgical facial rejuvenation, and laser therapy.

Dr. Wise completed her residency training at Boston University and served as Academic Chief Dermatology Resident. She received her M.D. from Boston University School of Medicine; where she was elected to the prestigious Alpha Omega Alpha Honor Medical

Dr. Wise has conducted both basic science and clinical dermatology research and has been published in numerous peer-reviewed academic journals. She also serves on the Medical Advisory Board for Impact Melanoma (formerly Melanoma Foundation of New England) and volunteers her time educating the public about skin cancer and skin cancer awareness. She was recently also selected to join the Dean's Advisory Board at the Boston University School of Medicine.

What is your typical process for working with a new patient?

At DermWellesley, we take the extra step to make sure each patient gets individualized attention and personalized care. Dr. Wise and her team pride themselves on taking the time to thoroughly evaluate each patient and listen to their skin concerns and skincare goals. Whether for medical or cosmetic dermatology, each patient is treated with respect and made to feel comfortable and cared for.

What advice would you give a patient looking to find a provider in your specialty?

It is important to find a provider who listens to your comments and concerns and offers a truthful assessment of how best to help you achieve your goals. With so many options out there for skincare and skin health needs, it is paramount to meet with a doctor who has been extensively trained in both medical and cosmetic dermatology.

What inspired your passion for your profession?

I love all things skin. The skin is often a first clue to underlying systemic disease states and, as a dermatologist, sometimes we are able to make that diagnosis before anyone else. In addition; because we offer both medical and cosmetic services; there is an ever- changing landscape that keeps us intellectually stimulated and engaged each and every day. New procedures; techniques; and medications are always in the pipeline and we get to be on the forefront of this very exciting time in dermatology and in medicine in general. My favorite part of my job, however, is getting to know my patients and helping them achieve their goals-- whether it be diagnosing a skin cancer, eliminating wrinkles, helping with acne, or something in between!

What treatments are you most excited to offer?

While I love helping patients with facial rejuvenation with dermal fillers and Botox and laser; I also love my Vivace for radiofrequency microneedling (it simultaneously tightens; lifts; and helps with texture and even scarring) with NO downtime. I have a fantastic device (the AEROLASE laser) that not only treats active acne; but also helps to rejuvenate the skin of the face and give a radiant glow. My other favorite procedure that we offer is miradry; which uses heat energy to permanently destroy the sweat and odor glands in the armpits. This is completely non-surgical and has been LIFECHANGING for my patients.

What is the best reaction you’ve ever received from a patient?

I LOVE hearing candid feedback from my patients. The best compliment is when a patient tells me that everyone remarked how refreshed and rejuvenated their skin looks; but didn't know they had anything done! I feel that less is more; and my goal is always to make my patients look like a more refreshed; but natural version of themselves.

"A couple of years ago Dr. Wise discovered a tiny spot on the back of my upper arm. This turned out to be an evolving melanoma which was removed successfully. If she had not spotted it so quickly and determined that it needed to be removed; I might not be here today to write this review praising her for her expertise."
