Ever Wondered What The Doctor's Really Writing About You?

Ever Wondered What The Doctor’s Really Writing About You? If you’ve visited the right doctor at one of the three hospitals — like Beth Israel Deaconess — where trial runs of a new project called OpenNotes has been taking place, you may already know. The program is a test of sorts, developed by researchers at Harvard Med as well as other institutions, in which patients get to read through their own medical charts to their hearts’ content. A new study on the project’s success to date has just been issued in the Annals of Internal Medicine: so far, it’s been a hit with patients. Doctors on the other hand, feel a little more ambivalent and have been wearing out their thesauri looking for more tactful ways to write “needs to lose weight.” [New York Times | Annals of Internal Medicine]
