Go to a Bargain Hospital … Get What You Pay For

Go to a Bargain Hospital … Get What You Pay For. Cutting costs is all the rage right now in medicine, and research in the past has suggested such practices are just dandy when it comes to patient outcomes. Not so fast, says a new study coming from a consortium of researchers from MIT, Cornell, and Vanderbilt, which has found that when you pay for cheaper medicine, you can often get well … cheaper-quality care. In other words, the big spenders of the hospital world are often the better hospitals to go to for emergency care. Ray of hope though? Coordination among the different providers can go a long way toward catching up to quality without raising expenses. [Washington Post | National Bureau of Economic Research]
