More than 50 salons and spas across Massachusetts, including at least 12 on Newbury Street, will be hosting the HAIRraising one-day cut-a-thon benefiting Boston Children’s Hospital. Haircuts are “free” but do require a minimum $40 donation. If that number seems high to you, note that on any given day, a haircut on Newbury Street will most likely cost you at least $100 (and that’s being conservative) so this is actually a really good deal. Some of Newbury Street’s poshest salons like Mario Russo, Salon Marc Harris, and G20 are participating, and the money raised is going directly to the the hospital’s Emergency & Trauma Fund, which helps patients and families receive emergency treatment when faced with tragedy.

HAIRraising was founded by hair industry innovators Gail Federici and John Frieda, and the event has raised more than $300,000 for Boston Children’s Hospital since its inception in 2010.

The cut-a-thon is this Sunday, April 28th from 11 a.m. to 4 p.m. For a complete list of participating salons, click here. Participating is simple. Just call your salon of choice, book an appointment, and know that your money (every dollar raised goes to the hospital) is going to a good cause.
