A vegetarian diet doesn’t have to be all about kale and quinoa. Fortunately, the Boston Vegetarian Society is hosting the 18th Annual Boston Vegetarian Food Festival the weekend of October 26th and 27th at the Reggie Lewis Athletic Center (1350 Tremont Street) to help educate vegetarians on the many delicious food options available. Even Boston-area universities have gotten in on the animal-free action by offering vegetarian and vegan options on campus.

The Boston event is actually the longest-running vegetarian food festival in the country, and the best part is that the whole thing is free. Seriously. Free admission, free food, and free parking.

The 2013 event will have more than 100 exhibitors from all over the country showcasing foods and products. There will also be cooking demos, cookbook publishers, educational exhibits on protecting animals and the earth, and a children’s activity center. Want to learn how to make dishes like “Creamy Kale Miso Soup” and “Vibrant Pistachio Lime Crunch Bars”? The event will teach you that and much more. The featured speakers include:

  • Will Travel for Vegan Food‘s Kristin Lajeunesse, who recently returned from a trip where she ate in every vegan restaurant in the country. The journey began in Boston.
  • Celebrity fitness trainer John Pierre and nutrition guru Kerrie Saunders, who teamed up to produce the vegan cooking DVDs When Bachelor Meets Homemaker.
