Tea treatments are gaining popularity in Boston.

There are many studies that link tea consumption with a reduced risk for stroke and heart attack. That said, there is no concrete evidence that applying the magical elixir to your face or body can give you the same benefits as ingesting the stuff. But, with spring on the horizon, area spas are harnessing the benefits of tea and infusing it into their treatments.

G2O Spa + Salon is unveiling a slew of green tea-infused spa treatments that will start in April. The Boston Tea Party Experience (40 min; $75) starts with a green tea-enhanced crème masque that claims to soften and moisturize the skin, followed by a green tea scrub and tropical shower. But that catch is that you do it all yourself. The treatment is modeled after the Bali Paradise Experience, which is held in a room (you get it to yourself for the price, or bring some friends and the cost goes down) with space for eight. A spa technician will show you what to do, and as you self-apply the masks and scrubs, the room fills up with steam.

The spa will also feature a green tea-infused body scrub (30 min; $85) that includes a full-body exfoliation with a Swiss shower and full-body hydration (read: spa speak for lotion applied via massage). Also available are green tea-infused manicures (30 min; $25) and pedicures (50 min; $55). The claim is that green tea’s antioxidant properties help to restore the skin’s lipid-water layer and increase the nutrients and oxygen delivered to the skin cells. This supposedly hydrates and softens while lifting and toning the skin.
