Could be the next Goop?

Move over, Martha. Step aside, Gwyneth. There’s a new Goop in town, and it’s written by former Red Sox outfielder Gabe Kapler.

The MLB vet played for 12 seasons—four with the Red Sox—including the 2004 season, which was the Sox’s first World Series-winning season in what had been 86 years. Kapler also spent a season managing the Sox’s Class-A affiliate, the Greenville Drive. Now, the Fox Sports 1 analyst has a new title: lifestyle guru. His new blog, the appropriately named is a “blog devoted to promoting and improving your health and well-being.”

Kapler could be on to something. Until now, most “lifestyle blogs” were run and written by women. And while Kapler is clearly all man (one quick Google images search pulls up an array of way-too-tan, scantily-clothed, body building images), his advice is not directed at men. The tips are geared to people who are interested in living a healthy lifestyle.

A recent entry, “Turmeric and Ginger Tea” begins with:

I’m almost ready to start my day. I wrap up my morning by finishing off my last gulp, tipping up my mug for the chunks of yellow and bright orange. Bliss.

Other topics include: Raspberries; Avoid Weight Lifting Belts; Body Language and Confidence; and Sushi.

He even has endorsements from some high-profile current and former baseball stars like Cy Young Award winner David Price (of the Tampa Bay Rays) and former Red Sox and Florida (now Miami) Marlins third baseman Mike Lowell:

Gabe, thanks for the posts. I really enjoy the broad range of topics you cover, especially the nutrition. As a fellow retired athlete, I feel compelled to still push myself and try to get the most out my workouts and fitness routine. I’m grateful I have someone who steers in the right direction. Throughout my time in professional sports I have yet to see anyone with the routine and knowledge that Kap had in both the weight room and while eating.

We’re going to keep reading because it’s clear he practices what he preaches and has a real interest in health and fitness. That is, until he starts writing about crazy cleanses and conscious uncoupling. Leave that to the pros, please.
