Orangetheory Fitness Is Opening in Boston
Construction is currently underway in Brighton for our state’s first Orangetheory Fitness location. The franchised fitness studio offers an interval fitness concept, mixing cardio with strength training, using a variety of equipment including treadmills, rowing machines, SBT suspension training, and free weights.
The Orangetheory website claims that you burn 500 to 1000 calories in each 60-minute class and is backed by, “the science of post-exercise oxygen consumption (EPOC), our heart-rate monitored training is designed to keep heart rates in a target zone that stimulates metabolism and increases energy.” What that means is that everyone wears a heart rate monitor, and the results are tracked on a large screen in real time.
We reached out to Sarah Bishins, the new franchise owner, to find out about the progress. She says that they are expecting a late-May or early-June opening date. She and her husband Andrew (who is a co-owner) live in Brookline Village where they are raising their two children.
From the above photos, it looks like a really cool class. Offhand, (and without any knowledge of the workout because I have not tried it yet) it sort of reminds me of Barry’s Bootcamp, except Barry’s doesn’t have the cool water rowers, which use water resistance to power the machine.
