Free Pilates Bootcamp to Continue into the Fall

The free classes were so popular that the restaurant decided to continue the series.

Boston loves free fitness classes, as evidenced by the vast array of free fitness options this summer. One of those classes, introduced in May by Glynn Hospitality Group, was a popular, free Pilates class, called the “Bikini & Bellinis Bootcamp Series” held on the patio at Sterling’s restaurant on Saturday mornings.

Due to the popularity of the classes, the series has been extended through September. Led by Jennifer Phelan of JPPilates, the class would see about 50 to 75 people every session. “It never feels crowded, though, because Sterling’s patio is so spacious,” Phelan says.

Although it’s called Pilates, the class features a lot more than straight mat moves. “I will be emphasizing the ‘bootcamp’ portion of the class so you can be sure you’ll be keeping that bikini body well into the fall,” Phelan says. “Students can expect new and more challenging routines, brand new music, and more. We can’t reveal everything though, we have to keep some tricks up our sleeves.”

Tricks aside, the extension happened because of high demand. Phelan says that participants made it clear that they did not want the series to end, so it made sense to extend it through September. “Hopefully the New England weather agrees,” she says.

After the 45-minute Pilates bootcamp workout, class participants can order off a special brunch menu that features a variety of healthy options. That said, as we noted in April, the bellinis aren’t free. Sorry, folks.

“I love the location of the class. We’re smack in the heart of Faneuil Hall yet the workout on the patio is mostly private due to Sterling’s ideal spot,” Phelan says. “I also love that I’m able to offer what is in my opinion the perfect Saturday morning. A free, hardcore workout with your friends, outdoors, followed by brunch at one of Boston’s best outdoor patios. And I’ve tested the brunch. There are plenty of healthy options for post-workout, plus there’s always the option for a little cocktail treat too. Trust me, you work hard enough to earn one.”
