October, if you didn’t already know, is National Breast Cancer Awareness Month, and sometimes, the true meaning of the month can get lost in the sea of pink products filling store shelves. If you’re looking for a way to participate while also doing something good for yourself, check out these 10 charity races and fitness events that are raising money for the cause. Race for the Cure The 22nd Annual Komen Massachusetts Race for the Cure will start at Carson Beach in South Boston. The Cure 5K Run/Walk celebrates, supports, and remembers those who have been affected by breast cancer while raising funds to save lives. 9/28 at 8 a.m.; Carson Beach, 200 Mount Vernon Street; registration required  Belles of the Brawl Haymakers for Hope, a non-profit organization, is hosting their second annual all-female “Belles of the Brawl” boxing charity event to help raise money for breast cancer. During the event, 20 women from Boston and Greater Boston will compete in a boxing match throughout the night. 10/2 at 6:30 p.m.; Royale Night Club, 279 Tremont Street ; tickets required Making Strides Against Breast Cancer Sponsored by the American Breast Cancer Society, this annual walk starts at the Hatch Shell on the Esplanade. The five-mile walk is a perfect way to spend a fall morning while raising money for the charity. 10/5 at 8 a.m. to 10 a.m. rolling start; registration required   Pink Laces New Balance is celebrating 25 years of supporting the Susan G. Komen Foundation by hosting a fun run around the city. After running, participants will hear from Dana-Farber cancer researcher Dr. Priscilla Brastianos about updates on the progress that’s been made in breast cancer research and treatment in the last 25 years. 10/8 at 6 p.m.; New Balance Experience Store, 583 Boylston Street; registration required Trek Breast Cancer Awareness Ride The family friendly 10- and 25-mile charity ride in Salem will raise funds for breast cancer research. The 9th annual event is a casual but fun way to raise awareness. 10/11 and 10/12; Colonial Bicycle Company, 419 S. Broadway, Salem; registration required  Pink Pact 5k Hosted by Breast Intention, the Pink Pack is a 5K for all ages. The event raises money for breast cancer research and participants can walk or run the course. 10/12 at 11 a.m.; Doctor Franklin Perkins School, 971 Main Street, Lancaster; registration required Jan’s Pitch for Breast Cancer and the Arts The 2nd annual Jan’s Pitch for Breast Cancer and the Arts raises money for breast cancer research and funding art education in inner city schools. Four baseball games will take place at the beautiful Spencer-Peirce-Little Farm, featuring teams from all over New England. 10/18 at 10 a.m.; Spencer Peirce Little Farm, 5 Little Lane, Newbury; tickets required  Pull for a Cure The Pull For a Cure Challenge offers competitors in the Head Of The Charles the opportunity to use their participation in the Regatta as a platform to raise money for National Breast Cancer Awareness month. 10/19; registration required 50 Shades of Pink 5K Color Run The 50 Shades of Pink 5K Color Run paints participants in pink color dye to support local women battling breast cancer and domestic violence. The pink-only color run organized by The Mary Kay Foundation. 10/19 at 11 a.m.; Loon Park, 300 North Main Street, Florence; registration required The Walk Against Breast Cancer The 12th annual Walk Against Breast Cancer is a five mile walk and all proceeds of the charity walk are donated to Dana Farber Cancer Institute. 10/19 at 1:30 p.m.; Congregational Church Green, 725 Washington Street; registration required
