Massachusetts General Hospital and Hartford Hospital are working on a study that will examine the effects of oral contraceptives on female runners. If you’re running the 119th Boston Marathon, are taking an estrogen-based oral contraceptive, and are traveling by plane to get to the race, then you may qualify—and earn yourself $100.
Note: This is not for the squeamish. It involves four blood draws. The first is prior to flying into the race (the flight must be more than four hours) at the nearest Quest Diagnostics; the second is at the John Hancock Sports and Fitness Expo on Sunday; the third is immediately after the marathon; and the fourth is after flying home.
