Boston Marathon Registration Will Open on Sept. 14

As in past years, the fastest runners are able to register first.

The Boston Athletic Association (B.A.A.) has announced that registration for the 2016 Boston Marathon, which will be held on April 18 of next year, will open on Monday, Sept. 14 at 10 a.m.

As in past years, the process is not first-come, first-served, but rather focused on accepting the fastest runners first. The registration schedule is as follows:

  • Sept. 14: Runners with the fastest qualifying times for each gender and age group—at least 20 minutes faster than qualifying time
  • Sept. 16: Runners at least 10 minutes faster than qualifying time
  • Sept. 18: Runners at least five minutes faster than qualifying time
  • Sept. 21: All qualifiers
  • Sept. 28: Any remaining people who meet entry standards

The maximum size of the field will be announced later this summer, but it is typically around 30,000 runners. Registration costs $180 for U.S. citizens or $240 for international participants, and can be completed on the B.A.A.’s website.
